Men’s Tennis Climbs Into ITA National Rankings

first_imgFollowing three wins last weekend, the Drake University men’s tennis team entered the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings this week at No. 46.The Bulldogs defeated Utah State, Indiana and UC Santa Barbara over the weekend to improve to 7-3 this season.Additionally, a pair of Bulldogs entered the individual national rankings.Tom Hands, the reigning Summit League Player of the Week, is now ranked 64th in the ITA rankings after a perfect weekend at No. 2 singles that included defeating the No. 25 player in the nation to break a stalemate with UC Santa Barbara and earn a team win over the Gauchos.Vinny Gillespie, the Bulldogs’ stalwart at No. 1 singles also joined the rankings at a tie for No. 72.The Bulldogs aim to improve that ranking this weekend when they host four matches at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center. The weekend begins Friday at noon against Oregon, followed by a nightcap against Omaha. The team returns to the court Saturday to host North Dakota and Nebraska. Print Friendly Versionlast_img
