Froch claims Groves will be ‘annihilated’

first_imgDefending champion Carl Froch insists George Groves will be “annihilated” in Saturday’s world title showdown.Speaking at the final press conference before he puts his WBA and IBF super-middleweight belts on the line against Hammersmith’s unbeaten challenger, Froch described Groves’ confident predictions of victory as “embarrassing”.And the Nottingham man suggested his punching power would be decisive.“I’m really looking forward to doing the business. I feel fit and sharp,” said Froch.Groves is confident he will become champion.“I’m looking forward to doing a job on George Groves on Saturday night. He’s had a lot to say.“My experience at the top level, my punching power and Groves’ inability to take a punch are the reasons he’s not going to do what he says he’s going to do.“He’s going to run for his life, jab and grab and try to get through it. He’s not going to stand and fight.“I’m really hoping he does have a fight with me because that’s exactly what I want. It will be a big, big mistake. He’s going to get knocked out.”The 36-year-old then told his opponent: “You’re in a world of trouble and you’ll learn some respect.“You’re getting annihilated on Saturday night, you know it and everyone knows it. I can see it in your eyes that you know you’re going to get flattened.”Groves, 25, insisted he would defy many pre-fight predictions by being the aggressor rather than boxing on the back foot. The Londoner has been widely tipped to adopt similar tactics to those that paid off when he upset the odds to beat local rival James DeGale on points in 2011.“I’ll win the fight, whether it’ll be on points because he’s running for his life or by knockout because he stands and tries to have a fight,” Froch added.See also:Confident Groves squares up to Froch after final press conferenceHearn predicts Groves will go on the attackRelaxed Groves unfazed by Froch – trainerGroves: Froch is wrong, I’m ready for himGroves reveals his plan to beat Froch in Saturday’s world title clashGroves stays cool at tense weigh-inGroves says Froch ‘has 48 hours to readjust’ after gameplan is revealedFroch v Groves: Live 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 Follow West London Sport on TwitterFind us on Facebooklast_img
