Violators, beware! New decree grants PSBB sanctioning power to Jakarta agencies

first_imgJakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has issued a decree that serves as the legal basis for sanctioning violators of the large-scale social restrictions (PSBB) and the social distancing policy imposed in the capital.The administration had previously referred to the 2018 Health Quarantine Law to regulate sanctions for violators, and many criticized the police for their lack of effective enforcement.Gubernatorial Regulation No. 41/2020 on sanctions for PSBB violators comes roughly a month after the Jakarta administration imposed the PSBB on April 10 in Jakarta, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak in Indonesia. The amount of the fine and the issuing body depends on the type of violation.
