FRISCO, Texas – Northwestern State’s Amir James and Ceaser Stephens were named the Southland Conference Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced Wednesday. Men’s Track Athlete of the Week – Amir James, Northwestern State – Sr. – Missouri City, TexasRunning the ninth-fastest 200m time in the nation, James set a meet record with the Southland’s best mark, finishing first out of 30 with a time of 21.20. James also bettered the meet record in the 60m with a time of 6.73, finishing second behind teammate Micah Larkins. James’ 60m time is 25th nationally and third in the Southland Conference. The Demons took the top team finish out of 14 competing schools at Texas A&M’s Ted Nelson Invitational last Friday, topping the final leaderboard with 80 points. They next head to Kansas for the Pittsburg State Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 27. Men’s Field Athlete of the Week – Ceaser Stephens, Northwestern State – Jr. – Opelika, Ala.Stephens ranks 12th in the nation and first in the Southland with his triple jump that set a meet record last weekend, placing first individually with a mark of 50-4.75. Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted.
